Georgia Forestry Association to Host Regional Meeting in Wilkes County |

On Thursday, May 14, from 6:00 - 8:30 PM, the Georgia Forestry Association will hold its Wilkes County Regional Meeting at the McGill-Woodruff Agricultural Center. This event will mark GFA's 2nd regional meeting of the year. The GFA regional meeting is an excellent opportunity to stay current with Association news, gain valuable educational experience, or just catch up with old friends in forestry.
Several excellent speakers are scheduled to speak at the meeting. Lauren Bush will provide attendees with news and updates about the GFA Young Professionals group. The YP is an active group in GFA, quickly becoming one of GFA's most valuable volunteer resources. Lauren's presentation will acquaint you with this emerging group in Georgia Forestry.
Sharon Holbrooks, Private Lands Biologist with the GADNR, will be on hand to discuss land management and cost-share programs regarding wildlife objectives for private land ownership. Her program "Assistance Programs for Private Landowners: Becoming Good Land Stewards" will draw on her experience as a biologist with DNR. Sharon will also discuss available conservation easements and tax incentives.
Since the Forest Land Protection Act was voted into law in 2008, landowners have wanted to know all that they can about it. Vicki Lambert, Director of the Property Tax Division for Georgia's Department of Revenue, will give a presentation on the FLPA, explain its implementation, and answer questions for meeting attendees.
The Georgia Forestry Association welcomes any forest stakeholder in the area to attend the Wilkes County meeting. Alva Hopkins, Director of Communications at GFA, asks anyone who wishes to attend to RSVP by emailing him at alva@gfagrow.org or calling 478-992-8110.
