10/22/2009 Georgia landowners and GFA lobby Congress
On October 20, the Forest Landowners Association (FLA) held its National Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. The annual fly-in gave landowners from all over the country the chance to meet with their congressional delegations and to lobby some of the most important issues facing them. Renewable energy from biomass, the Clean Water & Restoration Act, and the estate tax were among the topics discussed with Senators, Congressmen and their staffs.
The fly-in also provided a great opportunity for the Georgia Forestry Association to strengthen its relationships with its members of Congress.
"As an organization with a focus primarily at the state level, GFA doesn't actively engage in large numbers of federal issues, but there is such an unusually high volume of pending issues in Washington this year that will trickle down and affect our members that we have no choice but to respond," said Josh Stancil, Director of Government Affairs at GFA. "Federal developments under the current administration demand that we become more active and FLA's Advocacy Day gave us a great starting point."
