Committee to examine state's survey laws, timber trespass
State Representative Wendell Willard, R-Sandy Springs, has appointed a legislative study committee to review current Georgia law related to boundary survey requirements, focusing particularly on the issue of notice given to adjoining property owners when a survey is taking place. The group also will consider the harvesting of timber on tracts where there may occur a trespass resulting in monetary damages.

In appointing the committee, Willard, chair of the House Judiciary Committee suggested that one or more hearings would be held in the fall. Committee members will include, in addition to Willard ,who is expected to chair the group, Representatives Ellis Black, Valdosta; Tom Weldon, Ringgold; Jon Burns, Newington; Debbie Buckner, Junction City; Roger Lane, Darien; and Lee Thompson, Lawrenceville.

The study committee is an outgrowth of legislation - HB 970 and HB 1267 - considered earlier this year but not passed. The Georgia Forestry Association will organize a task force within the next few weeks to work with the study committee.
